Worksoft Execution Manager

Worksoft Execution Manager provides a complete system to manage automated lights-out testing of Certify processes. You will be able to schedule and manage remote execution for both Worksoft Certify processes and Certify Performance Test projects.

The Execution Manager allows you to centrally manage your diverse testing resources. You will be able to manage machines on dedicated machines, virtual machines, and machines on a cloud. Execution Manager gives you a way to check the availability and capabilities on each machine from a single interface, and it provides a screen shot of each machine currently running.

Home Screen:

The Home screen helps you identify issues with tests and provides a way to validate that the specifications selected for your request are correct.

It provides a summary view of processes that are Behind Schedule, Running now, Completed, Pending,Skipped.

  • Refresh button is available to refresh the status of the requests.

 

Resources Screen:

Before creating a Requestto execute a process, register dedicated machines as resources. Only one request can be performed on a resource at a given time.

The Resource screen is where we have to register dedicated machines that will be used to execute certify processes.

Above is the Resources screen that contains two panels. Left panel displays the list of resources registered. When you click on a resource, the details will be displayed in the right panel.

 

In the right panel of the resources screen, we can perform the below tasks:

  • Add a new resource
  • Edit resource
  • Delete resource

 

Add New Resource:

  • From the Worksoft Execution Manager menu, click the Resources
  • In the right panel, click New Resource.The New Resources screen appears.
  • Fill the details of the resource to be added (Name, Description, Host name).
  • Select one or both of the following options

Certify is installed.

Certify Performance is installed

  • Click Save to save the resource.

Edit Resource:

  • From Execution Manager menu, click the Resources
  • In the left panel, select the resource that you want to edit.
  • Click the Editbutton next to the resource that you want to edit, or click Edit Resource in the right panel.
  • Apply your edits to the resource.
  • Click Saveto save your changes.

Delete Resource:

  • From Execution Manager menu, click the Resources
  • In the left panel, select the resource that you want to delete.
  • Click the Delete button next to the resource you want to delete, or click Delete Resource in the right panel.

Resource Users Screen:

If you are using a dynamic resource during a Remote desktop Protocol (RDP) session, you need to create Resource users.

For example, if you have 10 machines that use the same user and password information, you are able to set all the resources as dynamic and create one user and password in the Resource Users tab. Then, the Worksoft Execution Manager would use this one logon information for an RDP session and execute the requests on all 10 machines.

Resource users should not be user accounts that are in use by staff. No one should log on to the machines with the same user accounts because execution will be disrupted.

Creating Resource Users:

  • From the Worksoft Execution Manager menu, click the Resource Users

  • In the right panel, click New User.
  • In the User Name and Password fields.
  • If you want to disable the user, select the Disabled

  • Click Save

To edit a resource user:

  • From the Worksoft Execution Manager menu, click the Resource Users
  • In the left panel, select the user that you want to edit.
  • Click the Edit button next to the user that you want to edit, or click Edit User in the right panel.
  • Apply your edits to the resource.
  • Click Save to save your changes.

To delete a resource user:

  • From the Worksoft Execution Manager menu, click the Resource Users
  • In the left panel, select the user that you want to delete.
  • Click the Delete button next to the user that you want to delete, or click Delete User in the right panel.
  • Click Yes  to confirm the deletion.

Requests Screen:

After adding resources in Execution manager, we have to create requests. A request is a Certify process, or a group of certify processes, or a certify performance project that we schedule for execution.

In Execution manager, we specify order of tasks and define the dependencies between processes and the schedule the execution of processes.

Above is the requests screen, we perform the below tasks:

  • Create a new request
  • Edit request
  • Delete request

 

Create a New Request:

  • From the Worksoft Execution Manager menu, click Requests.
  • In the right panel, click New Request.
  • Enter the required fields like, Name, description, Send notification to(field where we can enter one or more email addresses to receive notifications).
  • Click on Save & Close.

 

After creating request, we have to perform the below tasks:

  • Schedule process execution: Here we schedule our request by specifying date, time and number of recurrence.
  • Specify the order of process:
  • Define dependencies between the processes.

Request New Request

Edit Request:

If you need to edit a request, complete one of the following:

  • Open the Requests tab and click Edit next to the request that you want to edit.
  • Select a request in the Requests list and click Edit Request in the right-panel menu.

Delete Request:

If you need to delete a request, select a request in the Requests list and click Delete Request in the right-panel menu.

 

Adding and Editing Processes to Requests:

After scheduling request, you need to add one or more processes to your request. You can add your processes in new request or edit request screen.

To add processes to the Request:

  • In new or edit request screen, click on Processes
  • Click New.

The Filter screen allows you to create a filter or utilize existing filters. The filters will help you search for Certify processes across all Certify databases that are registered within the Certify Connect database. Existing filters are available to all users, and they are saved to the Execution Manager database.

By default, Ad-hoc option appears in the Filter drop-down list. The Ad-hoc option allows you to search for processes without using or creating a filter. Creating a filter is optional.

  • In the Filter drop-down list, select one of the following:
  • Ad-hoc– By selecting this option, you will not be creating a filter that can be used in the future.
  • New Filter– By selecting this option, you will create a new filter that can be used in the future.
  • An existing filter– Select a filter that already had been created.
  • Once criteria for filter is set, click on
  • Select processes you want to add in request. If you want to all processes, click Select All.
  • Click Save Processes.

 

The Processes tab in the Request screen opens with the processes that you selected. The processes appear in no particular order in the Processes tab.

If you do not need to adjust the order of the processes or apply any conditions, click Save & Close.

Certify Processes

To specify a recordset:

  • In the Certify Processes Edit screen, select a process in the Processes grid in which you want to attach a recordset or change the existing recordset.
  • Click Click to Expand Layout/Recordset Selection.

The Layout/Recordset Selection tree appears if you have layouts and recordsets associated with the project in which the selected process resides.

If you have more than one process selected, the Click to Expand Layout/Recordset Selection option is not enabled.

  • If you want to use the existing recordset associated with this process, click
  • From the Recordset Mode drop-down list, select one from the options: Read only, Append, Clear and Append, Read and Update.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click Save.

How to Run the Process:How to run the process

  • Go to Requests tab, select the process.
  • Click on “Run Now”.
  • After execution, email will be sent to the recipients with the details of execution.

  • Results can be viewed in the Worksoft Certify Results folder that is been mentioned in Execution Manager while creating “Request”. (Above is the screenshot where we add Result folder name.)
